The required documents for marrying in Greece are listed below.

All documents must be originals or certified copies.

  • Full A4 Birth Certificate
  • If you are Divorced – Decree Absolute
  • If you have been Adopted – Adoption Certificate
  • If you are Widowed – Spouse’s death certificate and previous marriage certificate
  • If you have changed your name other than by marriage – Deed poll Certificate
  • If you are under 18 – Statutory declaration of consent of Parent or guardian signed and stamped by a solicitor
  • Certificate of Non-Impediment

Once you have these documents you must legalise them with an apostille stamp. (see here for more details)

Each document must be legalised with the apostille stamp. This costs £28.00 per document and can take as long as one month to obtain, you can however go to the FCO in Milton Keynes London and have them stamped immediately at the public counter.

Documents are held by local authorities and are non returnable.

Passport – We require photocopies of the identity information page.

Certificate of Non-Impediment – You need to make an appointment with your local registrar to apply for a non impediment which can take up to one month to be issued. Please note this must not be issued more than three months before your wedding day.

Please note – If you were born outside the United Kingdom you must receive your original birth certificate and apostille stamp from the country where you were born.

All of the above paperwork is required by both parties.
